How many minutes per week do you really need?

Don't overdo it - keep similar duration. There is no "the more the better": above 20 minutes per week, additional benefits are not documented.

Should I do a cold plunge before or after my workout?

Depends on the goal. For recovery (DOMS): after training, but NOT within 4h of a strength workout if the goal is hypertrophy - Peake et al. 2017 shows reduction in mTOR signal. For mood/dopamine: morning, fasting. Huberman: "morning cold before food = strongest dopamine signal".

Is a cold plunge safe for everyone?

No. Absolute contraindications: heart disease, uncontrolled hypertension, pregnancy, Raynaud's, peripheral neuropathy. Relative contraindications: sickle cell anemia, vasodilator medications. Always consult a doctor. The device does not replace clinical evaluation.

Can I use the ice bath?

Yes, it's the DIY barrel for the poor. Fill with cold water + 5-10kg of ice to reach 10-15°C. Cost: €0 setup, €1-3/session per ice. Not precise on the chiller but validated by literature. Many studies use this methodology.

Why is brown fat and cold plunge connected?

Brown fat (BAT) is thermogenic: burns calories to produce heat. In adults, it's concentrated around the clavicles and kidneys. Cold exposure activates UCP1 (uncoupling protein), increasing basal metabolism. Søberg 2021 showed a measurable increase in BAT mass in winter swimmers compared to controls.
