Select city and category

Choose the city (Rome, Milan, Florence, etc.) and optionally filter by event category (music, theater, sports, art) to adjust the time range for viewing event density in previous months.

Analyze Event Heatmap

Monthly heatmap shows city and category density: darker cells indicate higher event concentration. Hover over cells to see details: event count, unique venues, and average ticket price.

Use data to plan your visit

Identify the months with the highest density of events for your destination and plan your visit during that time. Note that high event density often corresponds to higher tourist traffic and higher prices for hotels and transportation.

Suggerimenti

  • Compare the city's event density with its "Best Time to Visit" profile (another Travel Intelligence tool): a month with high event density and low tourist traffic is the ideal time for a culturally enriching visit without the crowds of peak season.
  • Music and theater categories tend to peak in autumn (September-November) and spring (March-May), when concert and theatrical seasons are at their peak. Summer sees more outdoor events (festivals, street cinema) but often less programming for closed theaters.
  • For large cities like Milan and Rome, consider that months with high event density (e.g. Salone del Mobile in April to Milan, Jubilee in Rome) correspond to price peaks for hotels and flights. Book well in advance (3-6 months) for these dates.

Where do the data on events come from?

Data comes from the open-data backend portfolio (endpoint /api/v1/open-data/events) that aggregates public sources and open datasets on Italian cultural events. Data is updated periodically; the last synchronization date is indicated in the attribution on the page.

Why do some cities show zero events in certain months?

No events can indicate: (a) no data available for that city/month in the dataset, (b) the open-data pipeline has not been run in production for that city (state "never_run"), or (c) low-season months with few events recorded. Smaller cities have less data coverage than major cities.

Is the average ticket price reliable for my budget?

Average ticket price is an aggregated estimate based on open data available and may not reflect dynamic or premium prices. Use it as a rough indicator for comparing seasonal trends (summer vs winter, city vs city) but always verify real prices on TicketOne, Eventbrite, or Vivaticket before buying.

Can I see future events or only historical ones?

The event calendar mainly displays historical density data (past months), not a calendar of future events. It's used to analyze seasonal patterns and identify the best periods for visits, rather than booking specific events. For precise future events, use platforms like Eventbrite, TicketOne or the city website.
