Suggerimenti
- Check your invoice: take gross total, deduct VAT and compare net with taxable amount shown on invoice.
- The 10% rate is often underestimated: it applies to most construction renovation work and restaurant meals.
- Are you charging with VAT? Remember that the VAT you collect from your clients must be paid to the State: it's not yours.
Domande frequenti
What does VAT split mean?
Tax deduction (or "withdrawal") of VAT is the inverse operation of applying VAT: given a gross amount (already including VAT), we get the net taxable value and the tax rate. Formula: net = gross / (1 + rate/100).
When is the 4% tax applied?
The 4% rate applies to essential food items (bread, pasta, milk, butter), books, newspapers, magazines, medicines, first-time home purchases with first-time buyer benefits, and some orthopedic and medical specialties.
When is the 10% tax applied?
10% covers prepared and preserved food, restaurants, food and beverage supply (bars and restaurants), building recovery interventions, domestic electricity supply, and some pharmaceutical products.
How does VAT work under a flat rate?
Taxpayers in a flat rate regime (part IVA with revenues up to €85,000) do not charge VAT to customers and cannot deduct VAT on purchases. Invoices must show "Operation carried out in accordance with Article 1, sections 54-89, L. 190/2014".
Is calculator valid for VAT in other EU countries?
