Automated weighted score

The system applies weights defined by the Begutachtungs-Richtlinien (BRi). Modules 2 and 3 apply: the highest weighted score is used.

Resulting Care Level

The Pflegegrad is determined by weighted sum: PG1 (< 12.5), PG2 (12.5-< 27), PG3 (27-< 47.5), PG4 (47.5-< 70), PG5 (> 70).

Suggerimenti

  • Document everything: therapies, visits, daily medications. Bring a daily activity log to your MDK visit.
  • No right to care allowance but monthly contribution of 125 EUR for preventive aid.
  • It is possible to appeal against the MDK decision within 4 weeks of receiving the Bescheid notification.
  • The appeal is free and usually leads to a re-examination that improves the grade.

How is the Pflegegrad obtained?

Required is a visit from the Medical Service (MDK) or Medicproof to ensure PKV coverage. The doctor evaluates 6 ADL modules and calculates weighted points. The care grade is then assigned by the Care Office.

What changes between Pflegegeld and Pflegesachleistung?

Caregiving allowance is a monetary contribution for informal caregiving (family care). Caregiving services cover the costs of professional home care assistance.

Why do modules 2 and 3 share 15%?

The legislator has foreseen that dementia and behavioral disturbances should carry the same weight of 15%, avoiding double counting. The MDK uses the module that generates the weighted score highest.

How long does the process take?

The Pflegekasse has 25 working days to issue the decision after the request. In case of urgency (e.g., hospital), the deadline is reduced to 2 working days.
