The Radiative Forcing Index (RFI = 2.7) is a multiplier that considers the climate effects of aviation beyond simple CO2 emissions. High-altitude flights produce water vapor, contrails, and nitrogen oxides that amplify the greenhouse effect compared to ground-level emissions.

A mature tree absorbs about 22 kg of CO2 annually. The number shown represents how many trees should grow for an entire year to compensate for flight emissions. In reality, trees take decades to mature, so actual compensation takes longer.
