What interest does FGTS earn?
FGTS earns 3% per year plus TR (Taxa Referencial). TR has been close to zero for many years, so the effective return is approximately 3% annually. This is below inflation, which has been a point of criticism - workers effectively see a real erosion of value in their FGTS accounts.
What is Saque-Aniversário (Birthday Withdrawal)?
Saque-Aniversário is an optional modality that lets workers withdraw a portion of their FGTS balance every year (in their birth month). Enrollment is optional but irrevocable for 2 years. Workers who opt in lose the right to withdraw the full balance upon unjustified dismissal, receiving only the 40% penalty.
