Insert your data

Insert gender, weight, height and age to calculate the basal metabolic rate (BMR) with both formulas and total daily energy expenditure (TDEE) for each level of activity.

Insert your data to calculate BMR and TDEE.

Come utilizzare Calcolatore BMR e TDEE

Seleziona genere e inserisci i dati

Confronta Mifflin-St Jeor e Harris-Benedict

Domande frequenti

What is my Basal Metabolic Rate?

Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR) is the minimum amount of energy the body consumes at absolute rest to maintain vital functions: breathing, circulation, body temperature, cellular production. It represents 60-75% of total calorie consumption.

What is the difference between BMR and TDEE?

Basal Metabolic Rate is the absolute resting energy consumption. Total Daily Energy Expenditure (TDEE) also includes daily physical activity, digestion (Thermic Efficiency Factor), and spontaneous movement (Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis). TDEE is what you need to calculate your diet.

Why is Mifflin-St Jeor preferred over Harris-Benedict?

Harris-Benedict was developed in 1918 on a limited sample and tends to overestimate the BMR by 5-10% for modern people with sedentary lifestyles. Mifflin-St Jeor (1990) has been validated on larger samples and is more accurate for contemporary populations.

Are these calculations accurate?

Predictive equations have an error margin of ±10-15%. For precise measurement, indirect calorimetry or doubly labeled water techniques are required. For most practical objectives, predictive equations are sufficiently accurate.
