Business Rules - Urban Exploration (Urbex)

This document lists the fundamental rules of the urban exploration domain, each identified by a unique BR-NNN code. Every rule is technology-independent and describes an invariant constraint on exploration, documentation, safety and ethics.

> Note: This is an exploratory-documentary domain. The rules model the ethical process of exploring and documenting abandoned sites, not commercial transactions. The rules reflect exclusively the concepts present in the pack's existing content.

> Legal note: Access to private property without authorization may constitute trespassing. These rules are descriptive and do not encourage unlawful behaviour.

BR-001 - "Leave No Trace" ethical principle

Code: BR-001 Name: Every Exploration respects "Take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints" Description: The explorer does not remove objects, does not damage structures and does not alter the state of the site. Documentation is non-invasive: the site is left as it was found. Motivation: Preserve the integrity of abandoned sites for future documentation and out of respect for heritage. Priority: CRITICAL Actors: Urbexer, Documentary Photographer Traceability: Urbex Ethics; "Leave No Trace"; document-site.md.

---

BR-002 - Structural risk assessment before access

Code: BR-002 Name: An AbandonedSite must be assessed for structural risks before exploration Description: Before access, SafetyRisks such as collapse, unstable floors, asbestos presence, environmental contamination are assessed. A site with unacceptable risk is not explored. Motivation: The explorer's personal safety is paramount; many abandoned sites present structural and health hazards. Priority: CRITICAL Actors: Urbexer, Documentary Photographer Traceability: Structural Risk; Asbestos; SafetyRisk entity.

BR-003 - Confidentiality of site locations

Code: BR-003 Name: The exact location of an AbandonedSite is kept confidential Description: The urbex community does not publicly disclose the precise location of sites, to prevent vandalism, looting and the influx that would accelerate their decay. Documentation is shared without exact coordinates. Motivation: Protect sites from damage caused by irresponsible access. Priority: HIGH Actors: Urbexer, Industrial Historian Traceability: Urbex Ethics; location secrecy; document-site.md.

---

BR-004 - Distinction between documentation and vandalism

Code: BR-004 Name: Documentation activity is distinct from vandalism Description: Documentary urbex does not involve breaking, graffiti, theft or alteration. An Exploration causing intentional damage leaves the documentation domain and enters vandalism, forbidden by community ethics. Motivation: Preserve the cultural and documentary legitimacy of urban exploration. Priority: HIGH Actors: Urbexer, Documentary Photographer Traceability: Urbex Ethics; urbex/vandalism difference; BR-001.

---

BR-005 - Visual documentation as the primary purpose

Code: BR-005 Name: The outcome of an Exploration is a VisualDocumentation of the site Description: The goal of exploration is producing photographic/video documentation that records the site's state of conservation (peeling, nature reclaiming, time capsule), with techniques such as available light, long exposure, HDR. Motivation: Preserve a visual memory of heritage destined to disappear. Priority: HIGH Actors: Documentary Photographer, Urbexer Traceability: Photographic Documentation; Urbex Photography; VisualDocumentation entity.

---

BR-006 - Respect for property and access rights

Code: BR-006 Name: Access considers the ownership status of the site Description: Public and private sites are distinguished; access to private property without authorization constitutes trespassing. The rule requires considering the rights of the Site Owner and, where possible, obtaining permission. Motivation: Respect the legal framework and owners' rights. Priority: HIGH Actors: Urbexer, Site Owner Traceability: Trespassing; access law; AccessRoute entity.

---

BR-007 - Documentary preservation of industrial heritage

Code: BR-007 Name: Documentation contributes to the memory of IndustrialHeritage Description: The exploration of decommissioned industrial structures (power plants, silos, factories) produces documentation with historical archival value; the Photo Report may integrate the archival documentation of the heritage. Motivation: Promote urbex as a tool for documentary preservation of historical-architectural heritage. Priority: MEDIUM Actors: Industrial Historian, Documentary Photographer Traceability: Industrial Heritage; Documentary Preservation; archive-documentation.md.

BR-008 - Assessment of the state of conservation

Code: BR-008 Name: Every documentation records the site's State of Conservation Description: The VisualDocumentation notes the state of conservation (intact, material decay, nature reclaiming, collapse risk), useful for temporal comparisons and for prioritizing documentation of sites at risk of demolition. Motivation: Track the evolution of decay and prioritize the most fragile sites. Priority: MEDIUM Actors: Urbexer, Industrial Historian Traceability: State of Conservation; Material Decay; AbandonedSite entity.
