Knowledge Domain Database - Manufacturing Engineering

How does the domain work before writing a line of code? Choose a document from the left tree: each page explains part of the model.

Business Rules - Manufacturing

This document lists the core business rules of the Manufacturing domain, each with a unique BR-NNN code. Every rule is technology-independent and describes an invariant constraint on the behaviour of the domain.

BR-001 - Production order bound to a released bill of materials

Code: BR-001 Name: Every ProductionOrder references a BOM in released state Description: A ProductionOrder cannot start without an approved BOM (bill of materials) in released state. The BOM determines the materials, routing steps and work centers involved. Rationale: Ensure repeatability and traceability of production; avoid starts with undefined materials or steps. Priority: HIGH Actors: Production Planner, Operator Traceability: glossary.md BOM; state-machines/production-order-lifecycle.md.

BR-002 - OEE aggregated from raw inputs, never product of averages

Code: BR-002 Name: The OEEMeasurement is computed by summing raw numerators and denominators Description: Aggregated Overall Equipment Effectiveness must be obtained by summing raw times and counts (availability, performance, quality) and computing the overall ratio, not by multiplying already-aggregated partial averages. Rationale: Avoid statistical distortion of OEE across periods or multiple lines (D-37-03-OEE-AGG). Priority: HIGH Actors: Production Planner, Maintenance Engineer Traceability: glossary.md OEE; D-37-03-OEE-AGG; events/domain-events.md OEEComputed.

BR-003 - Non-conformance blocks batch release

Code: BR-003 Name: An open NonConformance prevents closing the ProductionOrder Description: When a NonConformance on product or process is detected, the associated batch cannot be released until the non-conformance is resolved or dispositioned (rework, scrap, documented concession). Rationale: Prevent release of non-conforming product; preserve system conformance per ISO 9001 clause 8.7 (control of nonconforming outputs). Priority: CRITICAL Actors: Quality Inspector, Production Planner Traceability: ISO 9001 clause 8.7 (by clause, not verbatim); events/domain-events.md NonConformanceDetected.

---

BR-004 - Quality inspection before closure

Code: BR-004 Name: Every ProductionOrder passes quality control before closure Description: Before transitioning to closed, the order must pass the planned quality inspection. The outcome (ISO9001InspectionPassed or non-conformance) is recorded and traceable. Rationale: Ensure product conformance to defined requirements, aligned with ISO 9001 clause 8.6 (release of products and services). Priority: HIGH Actors: Quality Inspector Traceability: ISO 9001 clause 8.6 (by clause); events/domain-events.md ISO9001InspectionPassed.

---

BR-005 - Monetary values as integers, quantities as integers

Code: BR-005 Name: Costs in integer cents, quantities in integer units Description: All domain monetary values (material cost, scrap cost) are integer cents; produced, scrapped and stocked quantities are integer units. No monetary value or quantity is floating point. Rationale: Avoid rounding errors in cost and yield calculations (D-37-03-INT). Priority: MEDIUM Actors: Production Planner Traceability: D-37-03-INT; glossary.md (yield, scrap).

---

BR-006 - Machine downtime recorded and attributed

Code: BR-006 Name: Every MachineDowntime is classified and attributed to a cause Description: Every stoppage of a WorkCenter must be recorded with duration and cause (breakdown, set-up, material shortage, planned maintenance). Downtime feeds the availability component of OEE. Rationale: Enable loss analysis and data-driven maintenance; correctly feed OEE. Priority: HIGH Actors: Operator, Maintenance Engineer Traceability: glossary.md OEE (availability); events/domain-events.md MachineDowntime.

BR-007 - Quality audits at planned intervals

Code: BR-007 Name: The quality system is subject to planned internal audits Description: Internal audits of the quality management system must be conducted at planned intervals and their outcomes recorded; system non-conformances generate tracked corrective actions. Rationale: Maintain the effectiveness of the quality system, consistent with ISO 9001 clause 9.2 (internal audit). Priority: MEDIUM Actors: Quality Inspector Traceability: ISO 9001 clause 9.2 (by clause); events/domain-events.md QualityAuditCompleted.

BR-008 - Significant environmental aspects monitored

Code: BR-008 Name: Significant environmental aspects of the process are identified and monitored Description: The production process must identify significant environmental aspects (consumption, emissions, waste) and monitor their indicators, integrating quality control with environmental control. Rationale: Manage environmental impacts consistent with ISO 14001 clause 6.1.2 (environmental aspects). Priority: MEDIUM Actors: Quality Inspector, Maintenance Engineer Traceability: ISO 14001 clause 6.1.2 (by clause, not verbatim); events/domain-events.md ScrapRecorded.
